The Simple Truth About Life Purpose

As human beings, most of us want to have a positive impact on the people and on the world around us.

We chase our dreams and our life purpose.  We try to get into work that we love and that helps other people.

We do our best, we struggle, we get it right and sometimes we think we get it wrong.

To live and be yourself is your life purpose

I wrote an article a couple of years ago highlighting this.  I called it How to find your calling as a lightworker.  Maybe I should have called it ‘You are your life purpose’

We can spend a lot of energy looking for that thing that will allow us to reach our dreams, make an impact and affect others in a positive way, yet often overlook the most fundamental aspect of what we give, simply by being alive.

When you live, you provide a service to others, as well as to yourself – a way for others to grow through your example.

The people around you learn from your successes and your failures.

Your energy rubs off on other people and awakens something in them that they had perhaps forgotten.  This happens in such subtle ways that we all take it for granted.  But seen over the course of a lifetime, other people influence your life in a million tiny ways.

And the more people you share your life with (friends, family, lovers, strangers, co-workers, readers, clients) – directly or indirectly – the more other people are influenced by you and enriched by your presence.

The Dream of Life

In my Soul Realignment training a few years ago, I learned about a particular role that people can play during their astral time, when they’re asleep.  This role is called ‘dream master’.  People who are dream masters play parts in other people’s dreams.  So if you want to have a certain learning experience like taking revenge on someone (as an example), but don’t want to have it in your life, you can have a dream about it – and in that dream there are some characters that you recognize and some you perhaps don’t.  Some of them will be dream masters who play the parts in your dream so that you can wake up and learn from the dream, and that enriches your human experience.

We’re all doing that for one another in our waking hours, and we all have parts in one another’s dreams, in ways we don’t even know about and rarely get feedback about.  This blog would be one example of that.  I press publish on my posts but I often have no idea what people’s thoughts are or what role I am playing in people’s lives (if any!).  Judging by the emails I get, for some, I’m a friend figure, others see me an authority/teacher on the topics I blog about, occasionally I get people who see me as a misguided person for thinking that there is even an unseen realm.

Some of those roles and figures that I play, I have no control over.

The Root of Low Self-Esteem

If you’re like most people, you will have no idea how valuable your presence is – how valuable your actions are; your successes; your mistakes.

Every now and again, you may get a sense for how you influence others, but for 95% of the learning experiences you contribute to others, you won’t ever know what your role was or that your role was valuable.  People usually won’t tell you how significant your presence is in their life unless you ask them directly.  And sometimes even then, they don’t know how and won’t be able to tell you until your relationship with them is finished (through death or another circumstance).

The fact is, your presence here on earth is valuable, whatever you do, (and especially if you screw up.)  We remember and learn from other people’s mistakes much more than their successes.  Your sphere of influence is created when you live and exists for as long as you do.  Even if you can’t verbalize what it is.  When people are watching you and you’re in their life, they learn and grow and we all play a role that is valuable.

Without your presence, there would be missing parts in the script.

Yes, youre totally right Anna. We dont know what impact we have in people’s lives. My mother sees herself as hugely insignificant but shes hugely significant in my life, but because she feels so insignificant she never realised how important her role was in my life. In turn I realised how important the role of mother was in my kids life because of that.

All the best for your new job tomorrow :)

While I obviously can’t speak for anyone else who has read this article, I gotta say this is exactly what I needed to hear today. Recently while travelling I had a disappointing experience with someone I met, and I was letting it get me down. This article furthur reminded me that even less-than-stellar interactions are valuable and useful learning experiences and can be celebrated. And that each person’s successes (and mistakes!) furthur the growth and evolution of humanity.

    Thanks Anna!

Exactly right, Anna. Many think that our purpose is a particular job or vocation – but the singular gifts that we bring can be expressed in myriad ways.

Not only that, but knowing our authentic purpose can guide us along our path by telling us what direction would best serve and express our true Selves – and conversely, how our authentic energies can form the shape taken by our specific path through life.

    Good one.

Hi Anna, I have been reading your articles, past & present one’s but I have never made a comment on them until now for some reason. I suppose my question is? What is the TRUTH? How can one truly voice to another on soul or life purpose. If everyone is suppose to be a healer within or without an earthly title such as, light worker, psychic, soul realignment, clearing chakra’s, reiki master, the list goes on, then WHY is everyone who thinks they have found their niche so opinionated in telling others’ that it is SO EASY to find your soul life purpose. Spirituality has become another form of belief system these days like other groups eg Religion, Politics etc. Everyone giving out their own facts, legislations, commandments, abiding rules. There is NO right or wrong, good or evil, they are just set to control humanity NOT so why do they all try to preach it. The Soul never dies it can have many pasts and futures. Some souls

Thanks Kate – Yes defintely the role of mother is a very significant one!

Hi B Traveller – Thanks for commenting, I’m glad you got something out of the article :)

    Hi Michael – thanks!

Hi Marianne – I don’t think there is THE Truth. I think there is just my truth, your truth, other peoples’ truths. I wrote an article about this: http://www.psychicbutsane.com/intuition/how-to-discern-what-is-true

This article was written based on MY truth about life purpose, I guess. From doing so many of the readings about life purpose. I’m not sure it’s always easy to know your life purpose. Maybe for some people knowing why you’re here would be considered a luxury! Some people don’t ever know what theirs is, but it doesn’t necessarily stop them from fulfilling it.

LOL…Marianne…I think you may be missing a primary concept: any of this is whatever you make of it. If you think that Anna’s telling you what to believe, then that’s what’s true. If you can somehow take a more broad view you may see that it all fits in very nicely with your own “religion” – because after all you’re expressed a set of beliefs in the post above, have you not?

Many times the pain comes not from people trying to tell you what to believe, but from peoples’ _failure_ to definitively tell you what to believe. Knowledge of the power to create is more frightening than “knowledge” that we are helpless – it makes us responsible.

One last thing…if you really think that, in this physical plane, there is no right or wrong, good nor evil…congratulations. You then must be able to ignore what you see going on in the world and set yourself above it, thereby relieving yourself of any responsibility to help. Good for you.

I have recommended this post to so many of my friends. Just had a similar conversation about life purpose as ‘being’ rather than any specific ‘doing’. How beautifully you write!

    Thank you!

Wow, what a timely post! Apparently I was guided here deliberately….

I was feeling quite low today, and wondering if anyone was benefitting from anything I was posting on my blog at all. Then a friend called and said she was inspired by my posting even though she didn’t comment, and on your post I’m reading that most of our effects on others we will never know.

Thanks for this. I am working on detaching from the opinions of others – good and bad – and this was just what I needed to hear today.

I want to tell you the effect you have on my life. Like many others I’m sure, I often lurk here and read your wise posting. I ALWAYS learn something from your posts. Some posts like today are uplifting to me, and other are educational and transforming. In other words, all have touched my life for the better in some way.

Thanks for being you. And keep posting!!

Vanessa – thank you for recommending it and for the lovely comment :)

Kara – Thank you for your words, you made my afternoon :) You are right. I find that about 1-2% of visitors make a comment.

I myself regularly get a lot of other people’s blog posts and bookmark them because they’re so good, but haven’t made comments on many of them because I haven’t got anything to say apart from ‘this was great!’
