When You Have Trouble Believing in Psychic Abilities

I think it’s normal and natural not to fully believe in something when you’ve not seen concrete, consistent, reliable evidence of it.

In fact, why should anyone believe in psychic abilities, unless they’ve had undeniable first hand experience of it?

Me asking you to believe in psychic phenomena, when you haven’t got your own personal first-hand evidence of it would be like YOU asking ME to believe in a country called Wanalulu land, which I’ve never heard of before and can’t find on the official map. If I’ve never seen any evidence of it existing, then why should I believe you? You might be deluded, or just mistaken.

The only reason why I might possibly suspect that it could exist is because a few other people are talking about it too, including some people who I respect and trust, when they’re telling me what a great country it is and how I should visit.

Then I might start taking notice and find out how to go on a trip to this mysterious place myself. But before I’ve been there to see it myself, don’t expect me to believe in it.

It’s a ‘Catch-22′ Situation

The difficult thing is that unlike my fictional Wanalulu land, the realm of psychic phenomena is not a physical place that we can all experience no matter what. We can’t put it on the map and that’s because not everyone agrees it exists.

Why doesn’t everyone agree that it exists, though?

Because to see evidence of psychic phenomena, you have to be open to the idea that it might exist. And If you’re completely closed off from the belief ‘there may be something more to life than what I can see’, then you’ll never see any evidence of that.

Why?

Three words: Law of Attraction.

If you’re reading my blog, then you’ve probably heard of the Law of Attraction and you probably know all about it. The Law of Attraction says that you create your entire reality with your thoughts. Your thoughts arise from your belief system.

So, if you believe, or think thoughts such as ‘there may be more to life than what I can perceive around me with my five senses’ or ‘there is another, spiritual side to life’ THEN you will begin to see things occurring under the surface of what you call your life experience. You begin to see a little bit deeper. Perhaps you have a spiritual experience and you get a glimpse into ‘something more’. You start manifesting more and more evidence of the ‘paranormal’ around you – of course you do, because those are the thoughts you’re having.

If you believe and think that there is nothing more to life beyond what we see, then you’ll also see things showing up in your reality which appear to reinforce that, because those are the thoughts you’re having.

So in that sense experiencing psychic stuff is a choice. You can choose to accept the belief ‘Psychic ability is real’ and create it in your reality or you can opt not to. Neither way is wrong, and both can be real. They’re both based upon that belief (or the lack of it) that psychic phenomena might exist.

As the psychic-medium character in the Spanish horror film ‘The Orphanage’ said, the old adage ‘seeing is believing‘ is not entirely true as applied to psychic experiences. Because of the law of attraction, it’s more like ‘believing is seeing’.

So, here, the real question is not ‘Are psychic abilities real?’ but rather ‘Do I want to believe? Do I want to experience another layer of reality in life?’ and ‘Will it be beneficial for me?’

Of course, if you don’t believe in the law of attraction, then this reasoning will just be a load of rubbish to you. But I’m not going to debate the existence of the law of attraction in this article because it’s something I believe in. Indeed, this whole article is based upon an assumption I accept – and that is that the law of attraction exists.

But back to what I’m trying to say…

How to Experience the ‘Woo-Woo’ When You Don’t Fully Believe

If you want to see evidence of psychic phenomena around you, but the problem is you’re a wee bit skeptical, then all you need to do is open yourself up to the idea that you may not know everything; that there may be something underneath the surface of life. Once you’ve seeded the belief that it’s possible there may be more to experience under the surface of life, you begin to manifest evidence of that.

You don’t need certainty or complete confidence. Not many people do manage that 100% full belief in the beginning, when they’re starting out on their journey of psychic exploration – and that’s to be expected. But a small flicker of a belief still works.

When only a very small part of you believes, that part of you manifests a little bit of evidence that psychic abilities and phenomena are real.

And because you gained a bit of confidence, the part of you that believes gets bigger, and so you manifest a little bit more evidence of psychic phenomena.

And so on, until it’s a really big part of you that believes, so much so that you feel comfortable integrating your intuition and psychic resources into your life, and begin to connect with others who are also manifesting the same thing.

You go from a rational, ‘normal’ person to a believer in crazy ‘woo-woo’ stuff.

This is what happened in my case.

How My Faith in the Psychic Realm Began

I had two seemingly conflicting sides to me – one of them is a really spiritual, open, believing side to me that goes by the philosophy ‘what do we know about life and the universe?’ and then a logical, rational, doubtful, skeptical, side of me which at its worst tells me I’m a real fool for believing in the spiritual side of life.

When I started getting interested in developing my psychic ability, I saw these two conflicting world views in those around me. There was my old university friends and my immediate family who thought I was gullible for doing the work I do and believing in it (and they told me so) and then was my Grandmother who was the lone voice of ‘what do we know about the nature of reality? – just keep being guided by your instincts’.

So I had these two conflicting camps – inside of me and outside of me, when I started out

Those two sides of me – the believer and the skeptic – went to war on one another when I had a reading with Andrea Hess, (who later became my teacher) because her reading described me perfectly. Without me telling her anything, the reading explained WHAT I was like, WHY I was the way I was, what my issues in life were and how I could solve them.

The reading literally blew the lid off the big can of worms labelled spiritual/psychic stuff – is it real? because it was so accurate.

I was blown away. I went straight to my friends and told them about it, utterly convinced. But I was amazed (and frustrated) when they said ‘Ummm, well, you know this woman could have Googled you before the session. She also could have had some lucky guesses.’

I hadn’t thought of that. No-one else seemed to believe in it. And my confidence and certainty was shaken again by what I saw as the lack of support around me. So the two sides went to war once again. And so it went on for a good few weeks.

In the mean time, I had dreams at night which came true in the daytime. I had feelings of deja-vu. I knew what people were going to say before they said it. But was this really me being psychic? Maybe they were just lucky guesses? Maybe it was me reading body language? I came up with all sorts of excuses as to why it may not be real. Time and again, I saw evidence of there being a real psychic world open to me and at the same time I saw evidence that I was just a gullible idiot. But I couldn’t prove either side so both voices were equally loud.

Then, I decided that I was going to do a professional intuitive training course. It was a big step for me, because half of me didn’t believe in it, so the risk was that I would be wasting my money and would feel like a real idiot for having wasted money on a concept that wasn’t proven.

The Visitation of a Spirit

The event which erased all my doubts came around the time I started the course. I have written about it a couple of times before – I was woken up in the night by a spirit of a man (not something that used to happen to me every day!). I later found out it was a deceased spirit. The spirit told me who he was, whose relative he was, what he looked like when he was alive and I received a message for someone who was known to me. The message told me about an event that was known to this person and the deceased spirit, and revealed a couple of specific details that I had no way of knowing. The message was actually for my boss at the time, and he wrote about it in a testimonial he sent me, which you can read here.

He writes in the testimonial, at the end of it that I’m gifted. I like getting testimonials which say I’m gifted. Who doesn’t? But if I’m being really honest, I’m not gifted in the sense of ‘I’m one of the few people who has this gift’. I’m not more gifted than you. We all have that connection to Spirit if we want it to exist and if we believe it can. I am just someone who took the risk of believing, in spite of a big nasty side of me which told me I was an idiot. I invested some money and energy in my belief that it might be true, and manifested something which confirmed for me that psychic phenomena can indeed exist.

Since then, the evidence that I saw around me grew day by day because I stopped focusing on the doubt. And I began to manifest really clear, undeniable evidence that my psychic abilities are real. In my very first readings, I began to get details about people’s lives that I could not have known and I still get consistently accurate dates (months and years) of past events in people’s lives.

I also began to see things. One night when I was particularly upset about something, I called upon the Angels for comfort and in my bedroom I began to see little sparkling coloured lights dancing around. Just a few of them. I couldn’t believe my eyes. They were like fireflies. Then a few more came, until my whole room was full of different-coloured dancing fireflies and I was filled with a love the size of which I didn’t know existed.

If I had had that kind of validation right at the beginning of my psychic development journey, things would have been a lot easier. My doubtful voice would have disappeared quicker and given me less grief. But it doesn’t work like that. The law of attraction means that like attracts like, so when you take the leap, then you see the evidence. But the Universe demands a little risk from you. Until you stop focusing intently on that viewpoint which says to you ‘psychic abilities are for gullible people’, you won’t see evidence of anything that disputes that.

And even after all the evidence I’ve seen in my readings and in my own personal experiences, the logical, rational voice still gets some air time once in a while. I get too much validation from and about the spiritual world for it to gain any ground though.

So if you’re looking to begin on your psychic development journey, but you’re afraid that it’s not real, keep an open mind and weigh up the possible gain and the possible loss. If you explore it and then conclude that it’s all a load of rubbish, you have only lost your time and energy and perhaps some money if you spend any on books or courses.

If on the other hand, you explore it, let a part of you believe, manifest yourself some evidence, and let that belief continue to grow, then the benefits of using your intuition in your life can be huge. The best thing about having a connection to the Spirit world is that you know that you’re never alone – you can call on your Guides to help you when you’re lost and your Higher Self will also provide direction when you’re got off track.

Thanks for this post. :) My beliefs are being challenged, stretched and changed right now, and I really appreciate this article. I love it when you update!

I really appreciate this post. After receiving your reading I was very excited and was planning on getting another from you. I showed it to one friend who thought it was extremely accurant, but my husband had a very different opinion. He pretty much said the same thing as one of your friends. He said I’m sure she just got your information and googled it or plugged it in to some program that just spit out a reading for you. He didn’t think the reading was at all accurate and could have been meant for anyone. I cried and started to doubt. Your post reassured me that a lot of people are torn between the two sides, even you. I am hoping to find my way :)

Hi Zora, I’m glad you liked this one!

Hi Amy – I’m glad this article was helpful for you. I think that some people will not allow for psychic stuff at all in their reality – it’s just not something they want to create, so they’ll deny there’s any accuracy in it. Which is OK, but unsettling, I guess, when it conflicts with what you think.

  4. Great post :) I find too that believing really is seeing. We get to create and choose how reality will be for us in a very literal way so why not choose to experience psychic abilities?

There’s a cool synchronicity that’s been happening for me since I began doing Soul Realignment readings where I’ll be thinking of a topic in Andrea’s course that I feel a little unsure about or haven’t had much experience with and then I’ll get a client sign up for a reading who teaches me about that. When this first happened my logical mind would question what I was picking up about that person saying I was projecting my curiosity and desires to learn more onto them. But, of course, when I gave the reading turned out to be true so now more and more I just see it as proof of LOA.

    Hi Adrianne,

Thanks for your comment. What you said about literally choosing psychic abilities perfectly sums it up for me!

    Hey Anna

Thank you for sharing that. I enjoy articles like this when you open up what has happened to you in life and what happened afterwards. Very interesting.

Law of Attraction is another way of saying the Law of Mentalism in the Kybalion. I really do think we are Gods – or as Abraham would put it – leading edge creators haha. And we have beliefs which are condensed thoughts that we repeat and those attract the things we vibrate in accordance with. Our doubt you could say is also a vibration that repels that which we want.

Thank you for being on a roll with the articles. This one was really good! I’m sure you have another one lined up ;)

  7. Anna says:

    Hi Yang!

Thanks for your comment :) You’re right, doubt is a very repellent energy.

Anna…three cheers for sharing your experiences and your insights gained. I’ve just opened up to doing psychometry work…just loved it. I went to a meditation night and had no idea we would be doing psychometry as I’m new to the circle. I pleased myself and others with my accuracy. The voices and images were very clear for me and it was then just a matter of trusting my physical voice. I shared to those I read to even more clearly than I imagined I would be able to! Many new spiritual doors are opening to me. It is so inspiring to read your new articles. Thank you thank you. Looking forward to you coming to Australia.

  9. Anna says:

Hi Elizabeth, sounds great, congratulations on doing that! I’m glad this was helpful for you!

  10. Lena says:

    Hi Anna,

Wow, what an impressive experience with a spirit giving you a validation. That’s really great! I got a small validation of my own the other day. I volunteer to do Reiki healings and also do daily tasks to help run the local healing center. The next day, a woman I did a treatment for, called and let me know that her elbow didn’t hurt for the first time in a long time since she started struggling with arthritis. It might seem really small, but for me it was just what I needed to decide to do Reiki as a part-time job. I got a bit of topic, but I wanted to let you know that I can really relate to this, and that I found that my biggest lesson on the psychic journey has been believing in MYSELF.

    Hi Anna,
Must say, intresting reads. Thanks for sharing. I am relatively a noob on this path. I read your posts today, for the first time. Lovely work.
One question though: While reading your post on Akashic Records, you said that “the present, past and future records of a Soul are recorded”. And here in this post you emphasised “Three words: Law of Attraction.” I am kinda confused as to how can a “future” be recorded of a Soul, and if it is so, its all a matter of destiny right? So then whats written happens, and LOA is not functional in the real terms, is it not? It brings out the difference between 2 beliefs, destiny v/s freewill…I was just intrigued coz you mentioned both at 2 different places.

  12. Anna says:

Lena – I agree – learning to believe in yourself and trust in yourself is one of the reasons why people are attracted to intuitive development.

pooj – Thank you! Glad you enjoyed them. That’s an interesting question you asked and I have been meaning to answer it in a post about past lives and the Akashic Record, which I will at some point.

Just to clarify briefly…I don’t believe that our future lives are all already written and recorded. I believe we exist only in the now and we create them in our thoughts from the standpoint of where we are. Past, present and future are just concepts and thoughts. Likewise, I believe that our past is just a concept because the present is all we have. And I believe that the past can actually shift and change according to the standpoint of where we are. You could say it’s just a ‘story’.

I do believe in past lives and I do a lot of work on past lives, but I’m finding that most of the past life information I get is a story which is strikingly similar to what the client is going through in this lifetime. You can’t prove beyond doubt that it happened, but it’s certainly useful/relevant info to have.

  13. Julian says:

Thank you Anna for this post. I know you wrote it a few months back, but I just came across it and it really helped me out. I’m currently going through a phase where I’m really questioning my abilities – because they seem to be hot and cold – and it’s very frustrating! So of course I stumbled upon this post at exactly the right time. The LOA in action! Thanks and keep up the great work!

  14. Andrew says:

Wow, this was a GREAT article Anna – lots of connection. I guess it’s exactly what I needed to hear, I don’t know how to say it, but yeah, the whole thing about faith is something I needed to contemplate and it’s been a great help to have you as the catalyst. I think they want me to develop faith at this point… somehow I get the idea it’s key for what’s going to come.

    Thanks for the awesome post.

This is a fascinating article, as all seem to be on this site. I’ve been struggling w/ this but have recently become convinced in the last few months. I recommend keeping a psychic journal, because as you record things and date them, it’s in a sense evidence going forward. Last week I wrote an entry on an event, then later I heard about it on the news. Two days later I thought about it and had an a-ha moment. I realized that I had written about the news story before it became a news story. I was then able to go back, find the data on the story, when it occurred, and compare it to my previously written journal entry. I had proof for me, and others. I wonder now how much I have disregarded in the past. I almost missed this one, probably out of habit of disregarding.
